Villahermosa: Week 41 "Saludos de su Choco‏"

Hello everyone! 

First off I want to say that I met someone special this week. He was Derrick Aud's second companion in his mission. His name is Elder Mendoza. He is here in our ward. The world is so small. The Mormon world is even smaller.

Well this week has been super awesome. I did not take that many pictures this week. Forgive me. I will do better next week. I promise. 

I forgot to bring my journal to write this week and I am really having trouble remembering what happened. 

Oh yeah, this Wednesday, we decided to explore a part of our area that we had never been to because there is no members or investigators there. So we went exploring. It is a really miserable place to be honest. It is so hot and there is no shade. But the good news is the Lord led and helped us find 3 new families to teach. One is a family of 5, one is a family of 3 and the other we are not sure yet because we only met the wife and child. So it was a successful trip. We also almost got eaten by a massive Great Dane. Good thing that thing was on a leash. 

My companion and I are getting along super well. He is a great missionary and a

great teacher. I am learning a lot from him. But we think he is going to be transfered this next week. I hope not. But he had been here for 3 transfers and that is about the normal amount of time so we will see. 

The mission is great. I love it. The amount of growth I have seen in myself is insane. I am becoming truely converted. One thing that me and my companion like to do is talk with Pastors and people of rank and knowledge in other churches. It is fun. Sometimes it gets heated and that is when we leave because the Spirit leaves also. We had one experience this week where a Jehovahs Witness contacted us. He was a Taxi driver. We sat in his Taxi talking and teaching for a good hour. It is really interesting to learn about other religions and see their perspective. But when you tell them they are wrong, that is when the fighting starts. But that is probably something I am going to want to study when I get back.

Here I am really getting familiar with the Bible. Because everyone here worships the Bible and if you do not know the Bible as a Missionary here, you are going to have a rough time.  

But I am glad that the Lord has blessed me with an answer to my prayer that this is the ONE and TRUE church. I know it. I love it.

This does not have a name. It is layers of tortilla and egg with cheese, onion, avocado, and ham. And a spicy red sauce. So delicious.

Villahermosa: Week 40 "No Hombre"

Hello family. What a wonderful week I have had. I can not wait to tell you all about it!

On Tuesday, we had a very interesting lesson. It started with us doing service for a lady. We helped her move. She then allowed us to have a dicussion with her. She is in her 30s I would say. She does not believe in God. Or anything for that matter. She only believes in herself and her own strength. It was very unusual. But we tought her about God. We taught her about Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. We asked her if she would start believing if she received a answer directly from God. She said yes and that she had been waiting for an answer for many years but she had never got it. So we invited her to pray. She declined. She said she could not. She said how could she pray to someone that she does not believe in. We told her it is the only way she would receive an answer. But she wanted something more. She wanted a miracle, like a lightning bolt or something big like that. But I feel impressed that she will never receive an answer this way. That is just not how God works. He works through his Spirit in our feelings and thoughts. She is just not willing to accept that the feelings of peace and joy that she gets comes from the Spirit, not from her own personal accomplishments. 

On Friday, we had a Special Zone Conference/Activity with the President and his family. It was so much fun. I love President. He is a great man. We had a little devotional and then we went to the Ruins of Comalcalco. They were small but they were super cool. And I got sun burnt really bad. It was so hot. I will send lots of pictures. Later that night I went on divisions with an Elder from Veracruz. His name is Elder Ballesteros. He is super short and super funny. He is one of my Zone Leaders. The other ZL had to go to my area to interview Francisco for his baptism. 

On Saturday, the day of the baptism, we got up early and cleaned the font and about half the church including the bathrooms so everything looked nice. The baptismal service was so great. Me and Elder Gomez sang, Lead Kindly Light in Spanish. I had the awesome privileged to baptize Francisco. The feeling to help someone get on the right path in life is so great. The opportunity to be a missionary is just amazing. What we have been called to do. In our youth. It is something hard to describe. The next day me and my companion confirmed Francisco a member and gave him the Holy Ghost. He shared his testimony and it was so strong. He is going to be a great leader some day.

Well that is about it for this week. It feels good to be fulfilling with what the Lord has commanded me to do. Oh and one more thing. I got a haircut today and the guy messed up and now I am almost bald. It is ok though. My hair will grow back....

Villahermosa: Week 39 "¡No Manches!

What a great week!

I did have some sketchy moments though. Here are a few. 

First I electrocuted myself trying to get the ceiling fan in our house to work. But no damage done. My companion thought it was super funny.

 

Second, we found a giant spider in our bathroom. It was like something from my nightmares. I will send you the pictures.

 

Third, we got on a bus to go to a part of our area by the beach. It is like a 20 minute ride. So we got on and we sat down near the back. It was not very full and most of the people were to the front of the bus except for this one man. He was sitting and looking out the window when we first got on and I could not see his face. I saw that he had paint thinner in his hand and a little rag. I was like hmmm. Thats weird. Why does he have paint thinner. Then it hit me. Druggy. Then he turned and looked at me. His eyes were cookoo. I was like oh no. We made a mistake getting on this bus. So then we watched him inhale his stuff for a couple minutes and then he just started to stare at me. For like 5 minutes straight. It was not just any stare. He looked at me like he hated me. I felt so uncomfortable. Then he went cookoo and just started smiling and laughing crazily and he tried to get me to look at him but I would not. We finally arrived at our destination and ran off the bus. After me and Elder Gomez just looked at each other with relief. Elder Gomez was telling me he was praying that whole ride and was hoping that guy did not have a weapon. Believe me, I was too. 

This week, we are going to baptize a young man named Francisco. He is a really awesome young man. He is 21. He received his answer that the church was true while we were there with him. We said a prayer together on our knees for him to find out for himself. When we finished, he just looked up at us and smiled. He said, Now I know. So we are very excited for Saturday. 

Well there is my week for you. It was a good one. I love you all. I am so thankful to have a big happy family that loves the Lord. I could not ask for more.

Villahermosa: Week 38

Hello all. This week is going to be a little short. Sorry. 

First off, I completed 10 months. Wow.

We had Zone Class on Friday and I did not get packages but I did get 4 letters. 2 from Mom, 1 from Sara-awesome pictures, and one from Alexa. Thank you! You are awesome!

We had been having trouble with our house. Sometimes there wasn't water, it flooded, and other little things. So we called President and told him. He said you have two hours to find a house and to leave that day. We just kind of stood there for a second and wondered what to do and where we would go first. We looked that day and we were not able to find one so we had to stay in the house of other Elders. Saturday, we looked all day. We could not find one under the conditions of the mission. It was not until 8:30 that we found THE HOUSE. We found this house in front of a member. And it is right in the middle of our area, which is great. And it's big. Sweeeeet. It does not have AC which is killer. I have not had a house with AC yet. But there is a brother in the ward who offered to help us with that. So today we moved everything. It was a drain. I am so tired. Just drained. It is so hot. I am so burnt. Pero hay que trabajar.

Keep your spirits up in the hard times. I know it is hard. Believe me. But it is not impossible.
